Puppetry is a uniquely cross-curricular activity which integrates well with the aims and ethos of the Curriculum for Excellence. Workshops, in particular, help children of all ages to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. CfE recognises the valuable role of visiting professionals in meeting its objectives and enriching children's creative development.
A puppetry project involves art & design, drama, technology, literacy and even music. It's easy to tie in with social and environmental issues too. It involves group work. Be ambitious and make it an enterprise project. Browse the workshops below or phone to discuss how a stand-alone workshop could be a catalyst for further creativity or how a full production workshop can help facilitate true interdisciplinary learning and even form the basis of a puppet topic!
Children who are shy about performing in other drama activities usually have no issues with “performing” through a puppet while they themselves are hidden. Putting on a show is an enjoyable and unforgettable experience which encourages co-operation, inclusion, confidence and success in children of all abilities.
If you can, book a show along with your workshop as this really inspires the children towards excellence. I will be more than happy to talk to groups afterwards about all aspects of the creative process, running the puppet theatre as a business, and my own journey from Primary school pupil to successful professional.
